We introduce the charm of ‘Kitaki-kaki’ Oysters.
In old documents, Kitagi Island (北木島: The direct meaning of the name is North tree island) were written as other names, Shiba-no-shima or Shiba-jima (柴ノ島 or 柴島: Those direct meaning is brushwood island) . It was said that the parts of the first character ‘Shiba’ (柴) were split into two characters: ‘Kita (北)’ and ‘Ki (木)’, and it became the origin of the Kitagi Island’s name. It was a quite easygoing naming like the mild climate of Setonaikai Sea.
As the island’s name changed, it became the origin of the name of excellent granite stone ‘Kitagi-ishi’. We were inspired by this unique origin when we were considering our oyster brand name.
We named our oyster brand ‘Kitaki-kaki’ Oysters with other different Chinese characters which have the meaning of so many happiness and joyful things. ‘Kitaki-kaki’ Oysters has two sub-brand names for each oyster size like Shusseuo (fish called by different names at different stages of its growth). The best season for ‘Kitaki-kaki’ Oyster is from November to March --- the season of the year when have so many celebration ceremonies/banquets.

Kitagi Island, floating in the central part of the Setonaikai Sea, is the largest island in Kasaoka Islands of Okayama prefecture, but it is a very small island that has only 900 people.
This island is famous as the locality of high-quality granite from old times. It is called a name ‘Excellent stone: Kitagi-ishi’, and has been used for high-class buildings such as the stone wall (Ishigaki) of Osaka Castle, Otorii and stone lanterns of Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, the main building of the Bank of Japan, the Tokyo Station etc.
The site of the quarry on the island is famous as a scenic point.
